ATTENTION STUDENTS:

  • Congratulations to the JROTC who again made the ISLANDERS true to JFKHS school mission of becoming globally primed high achievers when they competed in the Golden Bear Competition held in Long Beach CA!       The following are the awards the JROTC airmen and women garnered: Novice Armed Sweepstakes – 1st place       (Team is entered in the Inspection, Regulation, and Exhibition Categories); Armed Exhibition Novice – 1st place;       Unarmed Exhibition Novice – 1st place; Outstanding Commander Novice Unarmed – 1st place; Novice Unarmed Sweepstakes – 1st place (Team is entered in the Inspection, Regulation, and Exhibition Categories), Armed Regulation Novice – 2nd place, Outstanding Commander Novice Armed – 2nd place. Thank you for showing the Islanders how you were able to garner five 1st place awards and 2 second place awards in that competition during your drill exhibitions on May 5 . We salute you, our JROTC cadets and instructors!
  • Congratulations to our VIVACE and VOCE NUEVO groups for one of a kind performances last May 5th and 6th; to their mentor and inspiration, Mrs. Sablan KUDOS for producing concerts that will make every Islander be proud of! To Mrs. Devi Barcinas who played several roles in supporting this memorable event and Mr. Ortega who assisted during the Concert, a great “Thank you” from all of us who watched and enjoyed the concert. To the students and their families who supported the Concert, “Si Yu’os Maase” and “Maraming Salamat”.
  • Congratulations to Karl Adriano and Sean Aguilar for representing JFK for second year Japanese language students! They came in 3rd place from a tough sudden death match in a field of 26 teams from both private and public high schools at last Saturday's Nihongo Bowl at FD's Phoenix center. 
  • Graduating Seniors: Please donate your used or even unused uniforms before you leave JFKHS. Many will be able to make use of them aside from your closets.
  • KUDOS to Mr. Alfredo Mendoza for coordinating the Islanders’ Pride Day last Saturday at GPO! Thank you to all the students and teachers and club advisers who participated and offered their time, talent and treasure for the success of the event. It was indeed a successful way of showcasing what the Islanders are able to offer in terms of being Responsible Citizens, Problem Solvers, Effective Communicators and Technologically Literate! BIBA ISLANDERS!
  • From May 19 to May 26, the students are not allowed to bring backpacks or duffle bags anymore. Please, adhere to this instruction. This is for the safety of everybody. You may use clear plastic bags or small lunch bags that are subject to search.
  • May 8-12 is National Teacher Appreciation Week. Please, show appreciation to your teachers in the best way you can.  
  • May 11 is PTSA monthly meeting at 6:30 P.M. in the Media Center. Please, encourage your parents/guardians to attend. This is the last one for school year 2016-2017.
  • May 19 will be Islanders’ Day. It will be a fun-filled day for the Islanders. Please, bring your water as it can get hot that day.
  • Graduating Seniors: 2017 Core Tech Foundation Scholarship:       Interested in receiving financial support for college! Application forms for the Core Tech Foundation Scholarship are available starting Monday, May 1, 2017 in the main office.  Eligibility requirements are 1) Guam Resident; 2) Graduate from a Guam Public/Private School, Class of 2017; 3) Carry a minimum of 3.0 GPA at time of application, furnish high school transcript and SAT and/of ACT scores;
  • 4) Submit application by today, May 8, 2017 to Core Tech Foundation, ATTN: Marketing and Communications Department. 5) Submit 3 letters of recommendation:  2 from a teacher or administrator from the school and one from a personal contact; 6) Provide evidence of enrolling full-time in an accredited U.S. undergraduate program in the Fall 2017(at the time of receiving the scholarship). Scholarship recipients will be announced June 10, 2017.  Good Luck!
  • Islanders, Summer School is getting closer, please see your counselors if you need to take summer class/es. Bussing and breakfast will be free.
  • Students on Free/Reduced Meal Program status may not transfer, by selling or giving, breakfast or lunch tickets to other students.  Students not eligible for Free/Reduced Meal Program cannot use Free/Reduced tickets.  Offenders are subject to disciplinary action, including removal from the Free/Reduced Meal Program.
  • For SAFETY reasons, random searches and evacuation drills will be conducted on a monthly basis.
  • As a reminder, the first bell is at 6:45 A.M. and tardy bell is at 6:55a.m. Attendance will be considered late-absence after 7:10a.m. Be responsible! Car riders are advised to plan ahead of time and be prepared to be on campus no later than 6:45a.m. Students who are tardy will receive referrals/ODRs for parents to sign and return to SSSO.      
  • Main Office and Counseling Office hours: 5:45 A. M. until 2:15 P.M.
  • FOAS Office Hours (payments for verification of enrollment, transcript, etc.): 7:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M.
  • Cafeteria: Breakfast time: 6:00 A.M. – 6:40 A.M. Lunch time: 10:55 A.M. – 11:40 A.M. Students are reminded of the following: All bags must be mesh or see-thru; no exceptions, even for athletes. Jackets and sweaters with hoodies or that do not open in front are not to be worn while on campus.
  • If your classroom is too cold, report to FOAS the need for the thermostat to be raised. On rainy days, students are to use foldable umbrellas or clear ponchos. Students must be in full uniform at all times while on campus. Use or possession of chewing gum, tobacco in any form, vaping paraphernalia, or pugua (betel nut) is prohibited while on campus.
  • JFKHS Spirit Fridays: Students may wear a JFKHS Club/Organization/Interscholastic/Class Shirts such as
  • Vivace, JROTC, Nursing, or other approved JFKHS shirts. Uniform bottom is required. All shirts must promote JFKHS. JFKHS colors alone are UNACCEPTABLE. This is on Fridays only

 

FROM THE COUNSELORS:

  • Students are you thinking about going to college on Guam? University of Guam will be visiting JFK to talk to you about their college and answer any questions you may have about attending UOG. So, MARK YOUR CALENDAR!!!  Tuesday, May 16, 2017 from 11:00-11:30am at the JFK Library Media Center. Sign-up sheet in front desk at counseling office. 
  • Attention Seniors:  Keep your options open and file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to secure funding for college.  See your counselor or go online at fafsa.ed.gov.
  • Attention seniors - UOG Army ROTC scholarships for 2 - 4 years are available. Applications are now being accepted however, funding is limited.  Board meets in August 2017 to select candidates. Must have College Board SAT scores.  Register to take the SAT this May.  Applications are available in the Counseling Office.

ATTENTION STUDENTS:

  • CONGRATULATIONS to the whole JFKHS Family: students, teachers, staff and Administration and parents for making JFKHS be accredited for six years by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The results of the visitation will make every Islander be proud of! Great Job, Islanders! Special thanks to the Accreditation Coordinator and Co-coordinators: Mrs. Tara Tydingco, Mrs. Norma Chargualaf, Mrs. Judith Roberto and Mrs. Devi Barcinas.
  • KUDOS! To the Class of 2017 students, officers and advisers for a successful Seniors’ Prom last Friday, May 12. It was a night worth remembering!
  • The JFKHS ART SHOW Exhibition is still on going up to May 19. If you haven’t visited the Agana Shopping Center Second floor for the Art show, please take time. Artworks can be reserved for purchase. The Art Show opens from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.
  • Scholarship awaits you, Seniors! Please, take advantage and apply. 1) Rotary Club of Guam Sunrise- Fallen Brave of Micronesia Memorial Scholarship for Graduating Seniors: The annual scholarship of $1000 dollars is being offered to those who are pursuing post-secondary education at an accredited institution.  The Rotary Club of Guam Sunrise created the scholarship to honor military service members from Micronesia who have died as a result of their service to their country.  Required Eligibiity:   1) a graduating senior from an accredited school within Micronesia  2) GPA of 2.5 and above at time of application 3) has not/will not receive any other scholarship 4) immediate family members are not part of the Rotary Club of Guam Sunrise.   Deadline is May 26. If interested, please pick up the form from Ms. Jocelyn in the main office starting May 15. 
  • May 19 is Islanders Field Day, please keep yourself hydrated during this day.       Participate and enjoy the competitions and games!
  • Students, you have only the last two weeks of classes. Please, make sure you communicate with your teachers and counselors for any concerns regarding your credits and grades.
  • ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS:  NO BACKPACKS, DUFFLE BAGS, LARGE PURSES AND BAGS ON CAMPUS FROM MAY 19-26. These bags will be confiscated and students will be appropriately disciplined.   Students can use white or clear plastic grocery shopping bags, small lunch bags and grocery tote bags (size 10x10) to hold school supplies and personal items.  All bags are still subject to a search.   
  • Graduating Seniors: Please donate your used or even unused uniforms before you leave JFKHS. Many will be able to make use of them aside from your closets.
  • Islanders, Summer School is getting closer, please see your counselors if you need to take summer class/es. Bussing and breakfast will be free.

ATTENTION STUDENTS:

  • Congratulations to the JFKHS Paddling Teams: Varsity Girls and Junior Varsity Girls Champions and Second place for Varsity Boys and Junior Varsity Boys!
  • Congratulations to the JFKHS Track and Field Athletes for winning the third place in the 2017 Independent Interscholastic Athletics Association of Guam (IIAAG) held last May 19!
  • Seniors, the last days for your clearances will be May 24 and 25. Please, ensure your clearances are accomplished on or before these days. Begin clearances with your teachers, library, Athletic Director (AD), JROTC, and Counseling Office during break and lunch time.
  • Seniors, graduation is on June 9, please ensure that all your obligations are settled.       Follow the graduation handbook/booklet literally. if you are in doubt seek clarifications from your advisers.
  • Service Learning Opportunities:  If you are needing Service Learning Hours to complete Senior Graduation Requirements or requirements for your grade level ASAP or during the summer, please call Peggy Denney from I'Recycle.  Her number is 483-9415.  You will need a Service Learning Log Sheet to record your hours and have verified by Ms. Denney.  Request the form from Ms. Jocelyn in the Main Office.
  • This is the last week of classes for school year 2016-2017! Congratulations to all who made it till the last week, did not get in trouble, and passed all subjects.!       KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! In our simple little way, WE CAN MAKE THIS WORLD A BETTER PLACE. HAPPY SUMMER VACATION TO ALL! Classes will be up to May 26. Attendance will be taken up to that day. Please, continue attending your classes.
  • ATTENTION SENIORS! Yearbooks have arrived! Please see Mr. Orot in B206 to pick up your pre-ordered Yearbooks. There are no more yearbooks for sale. Presenting your receipt upon pick-up would speed up the process, but it is not needed. Otherwise, please present a form of identification to verify the name under the purchase. No pick-ups for friends, classmates, etc. You have to pick-up your own yearbook; No exceptions."

  • VIVACE CONCERT will be on May 5th and 6th, please support our choir.
  • Congratulations to the 2017-2018 National Honor Society Officers who were inaugurated on April 28, 2017! KUDOS to the advisers, Ms. April Cordova and Mr. Dylan Orot. Your fellow Islanders surely are confident that you will uphold the four Pillars of this prestigious organization through your leadership.
  • KUDOS to the Advisers: Dr. Balmeo, Mrs. D. Quinata, Ms. Haruo, Mr. Lujan and Mrs. Wooley and the Class Council Officers of Class of 2018 for keeping the Junior Prom tradition at JFKHS vibrant and exciting!
  • Congratulations to the JROTC who again made the ISLANDERS true to JFKHS school mission of becoming globally primed high achievers when they competed in the Golden Bear Competition held in Long Beach CA!       They will bring trophies on Wednesday when they come back one is for winning First Place in the “Unarmed Novice Commander” category. More are to be announced.

If you miss the week of April 4 – 6 testing, plan on testing between May 1-May 8 in the Business Department.  If you've any other questions or concerns, please see any Business Teacher in the A Wing for further details.

  • Attention seniors - UOG Army ROTC scholarships for 2 - 4 years are available. Applications are now being accepted however, funding is limited.  Board meets in August 2017 to select candidates. Please, take advantage and apply. 1) Rotary Club of Guam Sunrise- Fallen Brave of Micronesia Memorial Scholarship for Graduating Seniors: The annual scholarship of $1000 dollars is being offered to those who are pursuing post-secondary education at an accredited institution.  The Rotary Club of Guam Sunrise created the scholarship to honor military service members from Micronesia who have died as a result of their service to their country.  Required Eligibiity:   1) a graduating senior from an accredited school within Micronesia  2) GPA of 2.5 and above at time of application 3) has not/will not receive any other scholarship 4) immediate family members are not part of the Rotary Club of Guam Sunrise.   Deadline is May 26.   • ATTENTION STUDENTS! Interested in graphic design, photography, or would like the ability to create a usable product, then join Yearbook Club. An unofficial, informative meeting will be held Friday, September 1, in B206 during lunch to discuss the school year and available positions.

  • Attention 11th graders: The PSAT/NMSQT are highly relevant to your future success because they focus on the skills and knowledge at the heart of education. They’ll measure what you learn in high school and what you need to succeed in college. Interested in taking The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) in October. Space is limited to 25 slots. Make Test fee Payment of $16.00 to the business office starting on September 5. Provide a copy of your receipt to Mr. Pilarca in the Counseling Office to receive a review booklet. See your counselor for more details. The test will be on October 11, 2017. 
  • Attention Juniors and Seniors: Are you ready for college?  Plan to attend these presentations and meet with respective college representatives to explore opportunities for higher education.  Please see Ms. Michelle Santos in the counseling office to attend. All presentations will be held during lunch at 11:00 A. M. in the Media Center.   • Attention Sophomores: You can still sign up for the Lodging Management Program (LMP), ProStart, Automotive and Construction Trades classes offered by the Guam Community College. These are two- or three year programs that will give you an opportunity to explore career opportunities and gain the skills needed for employment and prepare you for college.     • Congratulations Juniors for winning the Pep Rally Chant Contest!  KUDOS to all the students, advisers teachers and most especially the parents who participated and joined this event

 

    • Do you like to dance? Do you like to chant? Do you like to sing? Would you like to travel? Then the Chamoru Cultural Dance Club is for you! If you are interested in becoming a part of this club, there will be a meeting on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 in room D216 during the 1st part of lunch.     • 1st Quarter Grades:  The first quarter ends on October 18.  Students, do your best to pass the quarter by completing your assignments and passing your quizzes and tests. If you have any make up work or supplemental work offered by your teacher, please take advantage of their offer. A specific deadline for the submission of all student work will be s by each of your teachers, please follow their directions.  By October 24, ALL student grades will be inputted into Power School.  

 

    • Students:  We have a serious problem with gossip, rumors, and lies being spread on campus. Students are strongly advised to avoid others who say these things. Students who are found participating in the spreading of accusations or false information will be subject to suspension for instigation. Responsible citizens speak only what is true and kind. 

 

    • Speakers are not permitted on campus. Effective immediately, confiscated speakers will only be released to parents of the owners.

 

    • Students are reminded that upstairs is off limits before school, during break, and during lunch.  Students attending meetings in upstairs classrooms during lunch must have a pass from the teacher/advisor and must remain in the classroom for the duration of the lunch period.

 

    • Students and their possessions are subject to search and confiscation at all times while on campus. For SAFETY reasons, random searches and evacuation drills will be conducted on a monthly basis.

 

    • Before school and during break and lunch, the upstairs and annex are off limits to all students without a pass from their teacher.  Students are advised that any vapes and their accessories will be confiscated and WILL NOT BE RETURNED EVER.

    • As a reminder, the first bell is at 6:45 A.M. and tardy bell is at 6:55 A.M. Attendance will be considered late-absence after 7:10 A.M. Be responsible! Car riders are advised to plan ahead of time and be prepared to be on campus no later than 6:45 A.M. Students who are tardy will receive referrals/ODRs for parents to sign and return to SSSO.

 

    • Main Office and Counseling Office hours: 5:50 A. M. until 2:00 P.M.
    • FOAS Office Hours (payments for verification of enrollment, transcript, etc.): 7:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M.
    • Cafeteria: Breakfast time: 6:00 A.M. – 6:40 A.M. Lunch time: 10:55 A.M. – 11:40 A.M.

 

    •  Students are reminded of the following:  All bags must be mesh or see-thru; no exceptions, even for athletes.  Jackets and sweaters that do not open in front are not to be worn while on campus. If your classroom is too cold, report to FOAS the need for the thermostat to be raised. On rainy days, students are to use foldable umbrellas or clear ponchos. Students must be in full uniform at all times while on campus.  Use or possession of chewing gum, tobacco in any form, vaping paraphernalia, or pugua (betel nut) is prohibited while on campus.  

 

  • JFKHS Spirit FridaysStudents may wear a JFKHS Club/Organization/Interscholastic/Class Shirts such as Vivace, JROTC, Nursing, or other approved JFKHS shirts. Uniform bottom is required.  All shirts must promote JFKHS. JFKHS colors alone are UNACCEPTABLE.  This is on Fridays only!

  • On Nov. 22, WAY is hosting November Fest on this day, during school at the courtyard. Join us for fun, games, entertainment, and food!
  • Islanders, let's show some school spirit! The Class of 2019 is hosting a spirit week on November 20-22. Please refer to flyers and posters posted around the campus to gain information about spirit week! Students will be able to dress down for November Fest.
  • The final day to purchase a dress down wristband for this Wednesday's activity was last Friday. Dress down wristbands are no longer on sale and will NOT be available for purchase the day of the activity. Students who did not purchase a dress down wristband by last Friday must wear full student uniforms on Wednesday. Wednesday is NOT a Spirit Day.

Your Cap and Gown photos MUST be taken at Expressions Studio to be included in the Yearbook. If you're taking casual photos with another company, Yearbook Club's deadline for digital file of Portraits submission is February 9, 2018. If you submit your photos AFTER that date, you will NOT be in the SY 17-18 Yearbook! If you take ALL your photos with Expressions Studios, there is no need to submit your digital files.   • Attendance: The administration and teachers are guided by Guam Attendance Law 26-104 and Board Policies 411 and 330 when dealing with absences or truancy. Submit excuse notes to the Main Office upon returning from an absence. Keep the stub as your receipt and monitor your absences. Each note is only valid up to two days of absence and the limit is 6 notes or equivalent to a total of 12 days excusable per semester. Absences for 3 consecutive days or more, Doctor’s Note or pre-arranged absence is required.
  • Make-Up Work: Students are responsible in communicating and following up with teachers for make-up work. Submit it within the given due date. If you have concerns, consult with your teacher first. Reminder: unexcused absences or absences that are excused after the grace period of three school days do not guarantee full access to make up work
